Intersection Unveils LinkNYC Self-Service Portal, Expanding Affordable Advertising Opportunities for Businesses of All Sizes
Intersection, an experience-driven out-of-home media and technology company, alongside LinkNYC, the public-private partnership behind the world’s largest free public Wi-Fi network, announced the launch of the LinkNYC Self-Service Ad Portal. The portal makes it easier than ever for small businesses in New York City to access both free and low-cost advertising opportunities through LinkNYC’s expansive digital infrastructure.
As part of this launch, Intersection is enhancing its LinkLocal free advertising program. This expansion increases the number of screens eligible businesses can use for free advertising, from four to six. LinkLocal continues to offer New York City-based small businesses and community organizations the chance to display their ads at no cost. Additionally, the updated portal features customizable templates, color options, the ability to add logos and QR codes, and an interactive map to help advertisers select the most strategic LinkNYC locations.
“These upgrades to LinkLocal will provide hundreds more community-based businesses and nonprofits with opportunities to amplify their messaging through the most coveted out-of-home advertising space in New York City,” said Margaux Knee, Chief Administrative Officer of LinkNYC. “In 2024 alone, LinkNYC provided over $4 million in free advertising space, and we’re just getting started.”

The LinkNYC Self-Service Portal also serves as the platform for LinkDirect, Intersection’s new feature for purchasing larger, branded advertising campaigns. LinkDirect allows advertisers to select specific screen locations and campaign dates, offering a greater level of customization. Users can upload custom creatives, incorporate QR codes for better engagement, and enjoy the flexibility of managing campaigns suited to various budgets. To celebrate National Small Business Month, a 20% discount code (SHOPSMALL20) will be available to new users for their first LinkDirect order in May.
“LinkNYC is the ideal platform for New York City’s vibrant small business community,” said Jonathan Fuller, Chief Revenue Officer at Intersection. “With thousands of LinkNYC kiosks across all five boroughs, we’re excited to help local businesses of all sizes and budgets connect with their neighborhoods in a meaningful way.”
In partnership with New York City’s Department of Small Business Services, the new portal offers small business owners an enhanced advertising tool that’s both easy to use and impactful. Dynishal Gross, Commissioner at the Department of Small Business Services, praised the new features:
“Thanks to our ongoing partnership with LinkNYC and Intersection, more local entrepreneurs will promote their goods and services directly in the communities they serve,” said Dynishal Gross, Commissioner at the New York City Department of Small Business Services. “The expanded Self-Service Ad Portal preserves the ease of use small business owners value, while introducing new tools — like embedded QR codes and the ability to choose specific LinkNYC kiosks — to make ads even more impactful and measurable. We appreciate this effort to enhance an already powerful marketing tool that gives small businesses greater visibility and helps residents and visitors discover the local shops and services that make our neighborhoods — and New York City — shine.”
The LinkNYC Self-Service Ad Portal continues to be a powerful resource for local businesses, enabling them to tap into the full potential of out-of-home advertising. By providing both free and cost-effective advertising opportunities, it allows businesses of all sizes to boost their visibility, engage with their community, and drive success through strategic campaigns.
